I would like to address the overuse of antibiotics in our nation and how that relates to a compromised immune system. The invention of antibiotics was a huge advance in treatment of infectious disease. With this success, has come an overreliance as a fix for every cough and sniffle. Unfortunately, doctors over-prescribe medication; this is a fact. They fail to see the whole human being and how this "pill" they are prescribing will affect their patients in the future.
Overuse of antibiotics destroys intestinal flora. That will have a direct impact on our digestive system as it destroys the intestinal flora that's designed to get rid of the bad bacteria to promote a healthy digestive system. The immune system is most affected by overuse of antibiotics. So you then start getting sick more often and find you either have allergies you never had or certain foods upset your stomach. It puts your body on the attack, 24/7. This will lead to exhaustion. It's a domino affect on your entire body.
Here are the main foods to eat to consistently in your diet as well as while being treated with antibiotics:
l. Probiotics: Kefir, yogurt, tempeh, miso paste
2. No processed foods, definitely no sugar
3. Dark, leafy vegetables
4. Bright colored vegetables
5. Omega 3's-flax seed (that's grounded), walnuts, salmon (great source of vitamin D that's needed for this as well)
