Learning to hunt and trust.

November 18, 2009 by Shamrocker

I am learning how to hunt out all sort of tools and info to use in homeschooling.   I am always searching the web for websites with math games, alphabet games,  even grammer lessons.  I am always hunting for deals on books , currics, notebooks, crayons ,markers, craft supplys, social activities and I spent a good part of this afternoon hunting a deal on a movie rental contract. I need   a tool to get some more interesting science, history bio's ,  and even geogrophy movies into our homeschool. I am finding comcast on demand  is limited.  With all my hunting confidence I do not always have trust. Trust that I have the right tools, trust that I am doing enough, well frankly  enough trust in the kids learning.

Then something happens things click. I open kids folders and work is complete and it had not even been asigned. Multiplication drills written  just for fun and put in her folder. Web history searches for math games or state flowers. Wow they are learning not only that but self teaching and self learning. I walk into a room and the history channel is on. Of course sponge bob square pants still has a very vital role here in our home but so does reality.  I am able to now let kids measure food as I sit and just approve their actions. They are able to double recipes even set the oven temp. .   All these things really go such a long way in teaching me to trust the proccess, the kids, myself, and the tools to assure that the kids learn.

I am learning right along side with them. Learning freedom is so inspiring  not only to children but their worry wart mom who grew up in public school and had never even heard of homeschool. It in inspires you to wake up and find out why something works or if something floats.  It inspires you to get in the car and go to a power plant and learn about electricity.  Or go to a museum , go to the beach, go to the woods and look under logs then come home get online and look up what you got.  You find yourself  wrapped up in everything and nothing all at once with out even knowing it.  So I am learning to trust the proccess and freedom thanks to the encouraging signs.
