Well last night was the big night. The night I've been waiting months for and the night I spent a boatload of money on.
We dropped Jordan off at my parents house and headed over to the Metro. We arrived downtown and had yummy Sushi at a place called Wok and Roll (seemed appropriate for the night) in Chinatown. After dinner, we went to the Venue, got a couple drinks and settled into our seats awaiting the music to come.
The first set rocked! Danced, sang - it was great. Intermission came and we had to walk a long way to get to the one exit where they "let you out" to smoke. Kind of a pain in the ass, but I'm getting used to being treated like a second class citizen as a smoker.
Second set started with a beautiful acoustic version of a Bob Dylan song, Peggy-O. Then it was all down hill. NEVER in the 40+ Dead shows that I have gone to did I ever leave early. Last night was the night. The band went into this self-fulfilling improvisational, no lyrics, no rhythm crap for an hour plus. It was like going to see some hard core jazz band without the jazz. I've seen them get off on tangents sometimes and play to each other for a while, but that was long ago - when they would come around to this area three times a year. I am so pissed! I paid over $100 per ticket to see them and have not seen them in over 6 years. How dare them spend almost the entire second set doing that? I wanted to hear rockin' songs, or any songs - not that crap!
We decided to leave b/c it was so boring. I cried. I could not believe I was actually leaving a show before it was done. On the Metro ride home there were other deadheads who had left early; all as disappointed as I was (I still am). This morning I got on the Dead's site and read what others were posting about last night's show - the same thing.
I feel so ripped off. At least I had a nice dinnner with my husband.
