Getting back to the real world...and writing

August 22, 2010 by thinkhappy

I have exactly one day left to frolic away the days in a carefree way. Tuesday I return to the real world of school, schedules, homework, and being responsible. Ugh! There will be no more waking at 8 a.m. to the patter of little boy feet running from the bedroom to the computer or television room, no more eating dinner at 7 p.m. without having given it a thought beforehand, no more evenings spent doing absolutely nothing productive. Nope. Done. Another summer-gone-by.

Do I mind the transition? Other than leaving paradise (Cape Cod), I don't mind at all. How boring would life be without change?

Like everything in life, I like to count my blessings and spin-it-positive. The upside of the close of summer? School. When my children are at school I can dive back into my comfy, wonderfully fulfilling world of writing. My characters from Come Back To Me can finally move forward, into the excitement of their lives--they've waited patiently for three months while I frolicked. I've had time to develop subplots and for my characters to evolve, develop more interests, take on new loves, and stumble into uncharted territory--all of which happened in my head, of course. Now, it's time to put fingers to keyboard and make them come alive! Oh, what a joy!

Along with my in-the-head character and story development, I've enjoyed a summer of new-found health with my children. New eating habits and healthy lifestyle changes have replaced the more sedentary trends of today's computer-age children. Yea!

Best, of course, is that my dear husband has returned from Iraq! There's no better gift than that.

This summer will go down as one of the best, replacing last summer (which was pretty awesome, too!). Granted, I have found that each summer only gets better than the last--so I can't wait until next summer!

I'd love to hear if you feel your lives get better each year, each season, each day! I sure hope so!
