My husband and I went to see Dear John tonight. With his impending deployment, I was a little worried about seeing it. I wish I had read the book because the movie was very good and books are usually even better than movies.
Amanda Seyfried and Channing Tatum were spectacular, and I was so glad to see fresh faces! The acting was good, the storyline, as with all Nicholas Sparks books, was very romantic and tortorous. There was one glaring flaw, and it was pretty disrespectful to the military, in my humble opinion. There is a scene where Channing comes home in his uniform. He visits Amanda and his rank on his shirt was put on backward. I could not believe it! I mean, if you are going to do a movie about the strength of the military, please get the little things correct. Or when you are screeing, please go back and do a retake! In the following scene, the rank was fixed!
So, I have one question. Who's job is on the line with that error? The costume person? The prep person for the actor? The producer? The director? They had many, many military uniforms in the movie, but they have the main character's rank on backward?
Sorry guys, but I just don't get that. Did you think no one would notice? Maybe no one will, but as a military wife who has put rank on and off my Colonel husband many times, and for my husband who has given 18 years to the military, it was a major mistake. Success is in the details my friends.
Loved the movie. Please fix the error.
